Overview

This course is designed to explain all aspects of the LTE radio interface and eUTRAN functions and protocols.

A description of the LTE radio interface is given including an introduction to OFDMA and its application in LTE. The LTE radio interface layer 2 protocols are examined and the upper control plane layers of RRC and NAS are also covered.

The eNB is the focus of the EUTRAN therefore this course will detail the functions of the eNB and the supported interfaces; these include the Uu, S1_MME, S1_U and X2.

The protocols will examine the S1-MME & S1-U interfaces and study example S1AP messages, including the Initial Attach Request.

The X2 interface protocols are described and the typical operation of the X2 is shown with signalling scenarios, such as handover and interference coordination.

Objectives

On completion of this course the delegate will:

  • Understand the basic architecture of the LTE/SAE environment

  • Understand the S1-u & S1-MME interfaces

  • Understand the temporary identities for MME and Radio Interface

  • Examine an Initial Attach message using S1AP

  • Understand the use of the X2 interface

  • Explain the Handover Procedure between eNBs

  • Explain the main functions of the 4G equipment & Nodes

  • Understand the RRC & NAS signalling requirements
