Overview

This course evaluates the impact of IPTV and convergence on TV channels,  programming and web video models and examines changes in the content distribution landscape. It puts IPTV into the context of:

  • interactive and enhanced TV (red button)

  • on-demand TV formats

  • short form, web TV and social media integration.

  • 2 and 3 screencontent models

  • contract and intellectual property rights questions around new content formats

  • data, measurement and valuation models

Objectives

This course is intended to build on the Landscape Overview and provide participants with a deeper understanding of the way consumers will find and interact with content in the emerging IPTV landscape.

  • The role of 'channels' in an on-demand world
  • 1st generation case studies - Virgin, BT Vision, Talk Talk
  • The implications of IPTV integrated in VOD content models
  • 2nd Generation cast studies - The BBC's Project Concord

Short Form, Web TV and Social Media Integration (4 topics)

  • The arrival of 'Apps' on TV
  • YouTube and other short form models on TV
  • Integrated vs stand alone - two routes for apps on IPTV
  • Web sites' vs web 'outcomes' - Facebook and Twitter on TV

2 and 3 screen content models (3 topics)

  • 2 screen support and enhancements - UKTV Food, the Lost web game.
  • 2 screen synchronicity - ITV Live, Strictly Come Dancing
  • 3 screen models - functionality matching devices

Data, measurement and valuation models (3 topics)

  • Existing TV metrics for programming and advertising
  • New combined metrics for TV consumption - the BBCs 7+ model
  • From 'sample' to 'census - combining BARB with STB data
