The Sun Fire Workgroup Server Maintenance and Administration course covers installation, configuration, and maintenance issues on workgroup and mid-range servers within the Sun Blade and Sun Fire architectural line. The course covers the Sun Blade 1000, Sun Blade 2000, Sun Fire 280R, Sun Fire V480, and Sun Fire V880 servers.
The course is designed to provide students with the common concepts, architectures, key features, and configuration techniques for the Sun Blade and Sun Fire work group server line. It also provides students with server-specific information on hardware installation and replacement procedures, software configuration procedures, and troubleshooting techniques using software products, firmware diagnostic tools, and hardware utilities.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Identify the major features and key technologies of the Sun Blade 1000, Sun Blade 2000, Sun Fire 280R, Sun Fire V880, and the Sun Fire V480 servers
- Identify the features of the Sun Blade 1000, Sun Blade 2000, Sun Fire 280R, Sun Fire V880, and the Sun Fire V480 servers
- Identify architectural features of the Sun Blade 1000, Sun Blade 2000, Sun Fire 280R, Sun Fire V880, and Sun Fire V480 servers
- Identify physical features of the Sun Blade 1000, Sun Blade 2000, Sun Fire 280R, Sun Fire V880, and Sun Fire V480 servers
- Differentiate between cold-swap and hot-plug components and procedures to prepare for removal/replacement of field-replaceable unit (FRU) for each system
- Perform field-replaceable unit (FRU) replacement procedures for each system
- Describe the functional characteristics of OpenBoot programmable read-only memory (PROM) architecture
- Describe each desktop systems' power-on and boot sequence with a block diagram
- Troubleshoot configuration and hardware problems using standard diagnostic tools
- Install and configure RSC in the Sun Fire workgroup servers
