RHCT Red Hat Certified Technician
The Red Hat certification path contains two levels of certification, the Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) and Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE). Both are performance-based tests that measure actual competency on live systems. RHCT is the first step in establishing Linux credentials and is an ideal certification for those transitioning from non-UNIX/Linux environments.
Candidates who wish to certify as RHCT with no prior Unix or Linux experience should:
Should attend the 4-day Using Red Hat Linux course. This is perfect for candidates who have no command-line experience in Linux or UNIX and want to develop skills for using and customizing their own Red Hat Linux workstation. Candidates should then attend the 4-day Administering Red Hat Linux course. Following this candidates can take the RHCT exam which if passed awards the RHCT certification.
Candidates who wish to certify as an RHCT who have existing Unix or Linux experience should:
Attend the 4-day Administering Red Hat Linux course. This course is suitable for users of Linux (or UNIX) who want to start building skills in systems administration on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, to a level where they can attach and configure a workstation on an existing network. Following this course candidates can take the RHCT Certification Lab Exam.
Fast Track to RHCE Red Hat Certified Engineer:
Experienced Linux/Unix administrators can attend the 4-day FastTrack to Red Hat Linux for Experienced LINUX/UNIX System Administrators course instead of Using Red Hat Linux, Administering Red Hat Linux and Securing and Networking Red Hat Linux. These candidates can then take the RHCE exam.
Whats the difference between an RHCT and RHCE?
An RHCT has proven technician-level competencies required to install, attach, configure, and manage new Red Hat systems on an existing production network. RHCTs are capable of performing the the core system administration common to all systems, regardless of whether they are workstations, servers, network devices, or some other kind of system. An RHCE has also proven these RHCT competencies, and has demonstrated that he or she can configure networking services and security on servers running a Red Hat OS.
