Course Duration: 3 Days

Course Code: PWS015

Course Description:

This course has been designed to provide RF planners and engineers with the skills necessary to plan and design a GSM cellular network. The course includes topics on propagation of radio waves, network design, frequency optimisation, mapping techniques and traffic modelling. It is ideally suited to network planners wanting to gain a good grounding in the principles of cellular network planning. At the end of the course, delegates will be able to: - Understand the principles of radio propagation - Understand the theories of microwave link planning - Understand the planning tools that can be used - Understand the principles of network design - Understand the basics of traffic modelling

Prerequisites:

Delegates need to be proficient in GSM architecture and systems and as such be experienced planners or engineers. However if new to this area, then attendance on a GSM Overview course would suffice.

This course includes the following modules:

Introduction

  • Overview of radio spectrum and GSM architecture
  • Overview of radio propagation models
  • Overview of network design structures
  • Inconsistencies with models

Basics of Network Design

  • Frequency allocation
  • Frequency re-use and hopping
  • Hierarchical network design

Radio Propagation Principles
