Course Description:

This product package is comprised of a three-day instructor-led class, SA-210-S10 and a 4 hour self-paced web course, WSB-210-S10. This course provides the essential differences between Solaris 8, Solaris 9 and Solaris 10. The course covers skills and tasks that new in Solaris 10, and changed in Solaris 10. The course also covers tasks in Solaris 10 that replace previous Solaris tasks. This course is intended to provide experienced Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 systems administrators with practical experience administering Solaris 10 through hands-on practice and focuses on many of the objectives necessary to prepare them to take the Sun Certified System Administrator for the Solaris 10 Operating System Upgrade Exam (CX-310-203).

- Install the Solaris 10 OS
- Install Software in the Solaris 10 OS
- Manage Solaris 10 OS patches and updates
- Perform user and security administration in the Solaris 10 OS
- Manage processes in the Solaris 10 OS
- Describe networking basic in the Solaris 10 OS
- Manage virtual file systems and core dumps in the Solaris 10 OS
- Manage storage volumes in the Solaris 10 OS
- Control system access in the Solaris 10 OS
- Configure system messaging in the Solaris 10 OS
- Set up naming services in the Solaris 10 OS
- Perform advanced installation procedures like jumpstart and flash installation in the Solaris 10 OS

- Experienced Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 Systems Adminstrators who need to understand the essential differences in Solaris 10.
- Systems Administrators holding valid Solaris 8 and/or Solaris 9 Sun Certified Solaris Systems Administrator certification can use this course to prepare for the Sun Certified System Administrator for the Solaris 10 Operating System Upgrade Exam (CX-310-203).

Prerequisites:

To succeed fully in this course, students should be certified system administrators on the Solaris 8 or Solaris 9 operating systems.

• Identify changes related to pseudo file systems
• Describe features of the Multiterabyte UFS
• Describe changes related to logging in UFS
• Describe the default behaviour and output of the mount command with respect to logging in the UFS
• Describe the meaning of the devices flag of the mount command

Installing the Solaris OS

• Describe the installation methods available for the Solaris 10 OS
• State the installation requirements for the Solaris 10 OS
• Describe additional software groups introduced in the Solaris 10 OS

Introducing the Fundamentals of Package and Patch Administration

• Describe how signed packages and patches are implemented
• Implement patch management using the Sun

• Update Manager application, the smpatch ommand line, and the Sun Update Connection hosted Web application

• Create an alternate boot environment cloned from a running system
• Create a differential flash archive in a Live Upgrade boot environment
• Create an empty alternative boot environment and understand when this is necessary
• Extend a base boot environment with a differential flash archive

Introducing WANboot

• Perform a WANboot Flash installation
