Course Description:
The purpose of this training course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to an Enterprise Architecture from a Telecoms industry perspective. It will provide a complete overview of the individual components of the NGOSS framework (eTOM, SID, TNA and TAM) as well as the TOGAF and its ADM methodology. The training will have a strong focus on Enterprise Architecture from the perspective of a best-of-breed architecture integration approach, leveraging the TOGAF from The Open Group and the NGOSS from the TeleManagement Forum. The course will provide a methodology to developing a Telecoms centric Enterprise Architecture by combining the best of both worlds: NGOSS and TOGAF.
The course will cover the following topics:
- Introducing Enterprise Architecture
- The case for leveraging NGOSS and TOGAF
- NGOSS versus TOGAF and other major architecture frameworks
- NGOSS Architecture Overview
- TOGAF Architecture and ADM Methodology overview
- Introduction to the eTOM and its role within NGOSS
- eTOM process and flow decompositions
- Overview of the SID and TAM and their role within the NGOSS
- Methodology to apply the NGOSS and TOGAF to develop a Telecom specific Enterprise Architecture
- Using the NGOSS and TOGAF

This course includes the following modules:
Introduction to Enterprise Architecture and the TOGAF
- This module will provide attendees with an overview of Enterprise Architecture and the TOGAF and a special focus on its architecture development methodology: the ADM. Also it will include an overview of TOGAF’s key architectural components and the relationship, synergy and integration points with the NGOSS from the TMF. Upon completion, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the fundamental concepts of Enterprise Architecture
- Understand the TOGAF and its ADM methodology
- Understand the individual components of TOGAF and the basic approach on how to apply them in Enterprise Architecture
- Identify all the components of TOGAF and the relationship
- between them
- Understand how to best use TOGAF as an Enterprise Architecture development methodology.
Introduction to NGOSS
- This module will provide attendees with an overview of the NGOSS framework and its key components: the eTOM, the SID, the TNA and
- the TAM. The module will cover the NGOSS lifecycle as well as the relationship and architecture integration concepts between the eTOM, the SID, the TAM and how to integrate them with the TOGAF for a best-of-breed architecture approach. Upon completion, attendees will be able to:
- Identify all the components of NGOSS and the relationship between them
- Understand NGOSS lifecycle and architecture methodology
- Understand basic concepts of eTOM, SID and TAM and their relationship to NGOSS
- Understand integration approach with TOGAF
Introduction to eTOM
- The eTOM framework is at the heart of NGOSS. It provides the only standardized way within the telecoms industry to capture business
- processes. This module will provide the attendee with a fundamental understanding of the eTOM framework and how to apply it in business
- process design. The student will hear how the eTOM fits within the NGOSS and from an Enterprise Architecture perspective and how to apply it real world projects. Upon completion, attendees will be able to:
- Identify all the components of the eTOM framework
- Understand the role of the eTOM within an enterprise, and how to use and benefit from it in real life projects
- Understand how eTOM process decomposition is used to “drill down” to lower levels (Level 2, Level 3 and beyond)
- Recognize the relationships between the eTOM framework and various other models (NGOSS, SID, TMN, ITIL, TOGAF)
Introduction to SID
- This module provides an overview of the SID. It illustrates and describes the role of the SID within the NGOSS and provides a general description of the SID modelling patterns, information modelling approach and structure. The SID framework is presented and explained to attendees, including
- an overview of the SID domains and addenda documents. Upon completion, attendees will be able to:
- Describe the relationship between the SID and the NGOSS architecture
- Provide an overview of the SID framework
- Understand the role SID modelling patterns play to extend the SID
- Provide a good understanding of the SID and to apply it in real projects and for the development of OSS/BSS components.
Introduction to TAM
- The module will provide an overview of the TAM, its relationship with the eTOM and the SID frameworks, as well as its role within the
- NGOSS. The main focus of this module is the TAM itself and how to integrate it from an Application Architecture perspective, as well as with the other NGOSS components and from an Enterprise
- Architecture perspective. Upon completion, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the role of the TAM within the NGOSS
- Understand the relationship between the TAM, the eTOM, the SID and its integration approach with TOGAF.
- Understand the TAM structure and its application domains
- Recognize how the TAM can be applied within an Enterprise
- Architecture as the preferred Application Architecture layer
- Recognize the value of using the TAM.
