View course dates

Course Duration: 1 day

Course Code: PWS127

Course Description:

This 1-day course presents a high level overview of the existing High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) systems and the evolution of these services in both the medium and long term. Access Network topics including High Speed Packet Access Plus (HSPA+) performance enhancements and Long Term Evolution (LTE), while Core Network and Service Provision topics include the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and the proposed System Architecture Evolution (SAE). In addition, the use of HSPA/HSPA+ and the evolved 3GPP Access and Core Networks for real-time services such as VoIP and non-real time applications are discussed.

Objectives:

- To provide an overview of the current and emerging HSPA/HSPA+ principles and features
- To describe the current and evolving network architectures for both HSPA+ and 3GPP LTE
- To present a description of the IMS architecture, principles and features
- To outline key procedures relating to Packet Service connectivity in these systems
- To provide an outline of service provision and charging principles and the implication of these to Packet Switched Multi-media service deployment
- To discuss Continuous Packet Connectivity principles
- To present an overview of the use the above systems to provide and charge for Packet Switched Voice Services such as VoIP to mobile network subscribers

Following this course the delegates will have a more detailed understanding of how current and emerging 3GPP systems are becoming more suitable for the deployment and provision of Packet Switched Data and Voice services. The delegate should then be better placed to make informed decisions on how to develop, deploy and support packet switched applications and services, in both the medium and long term, based on an understanding of the current and evolving principles, procedures, and architectures.

Prerequisites:

Basic understanding of mobile network service provision and a basic understanding of IP are required.
