Course outline for Satellite Ku-band IPTV and Direct To Home ServicesSatellite Ku-band IPTV and Direct To Home Services

View course dates

Course Duration: 2 days

Course Code: PWL103

Course Description:

Satellite Ku-band video services are showing the highest growth rate of any technology for distribution to Free To Air, IPTV and cable head-ends. Many new 36 MHz transponder equivalents of Ku-band capacity are being added to global capacity demand each year - with half coming from delivery of services within the Direct-To-Home markets alone.

To enhance future growth, satellite industry professionals must concentrate on what satellites do well besides video delivery. With New Ku-band spot services, lower-cost, higher-performance interactive VSAT services can become reality. This makes satellite an ideal delivery mechanism for backhaul from WiMAX cells, DVB-H local delivery and streaming services.

This course examines how new satellite services are evolving, how the technology functions and how it can be applied to these new market sectors.

Course Objectives:

When you have completed this course you will be able to:

- Appreciate the technical advantages of new and existing satellite technologies
- Discuss the uplink and downlink technologies deployed
- Calculate gain and antenna characteristics for VSAT and Direct-to-home delivery
- Deploy satellite backhaul on IPTV, WiMax and Hand Held TV applications
- Deliver interactive IP Direct To Home services using new satellite technology

Prerequisites:

Delegates should have a basic understanding of telecommunications principles, and basic knowledge of IP.
