Course Description:

This course charts the requirements and developments in Next Generation Networks, to allow the convergence of Voice, Data and Multimedia networks. It describes the key technologies involved in this deployment including: Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), MPLS, DiffServ, RSVP, RTP and the H.323 protocol suite. Through the use of real-life examples, the techniques and protocols involved in the deployment of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), for both fixed and mobile networks, are examined. SIGTRAN is also discussed to show integration with legacy PSTN and GSM systems.
