Course Description:


This course prepares system administrators to successfully configure, manage, maintain and administer a Solaris 10 system in a networked environment. Emphasis is on configuring a system to co-operate and share system resources within a network.

 

Delegates who can benefit from this course are system administrators who are already familiar with the Solaris 10 operating environment and who want an understanding of the concepts and tools available for setting up a Solaris 10 system in a networked environment.

 

Upon successful completion of both the Solaris Admin Part I & Solaris Admin Part II courses, delegates should be well positioned to undertake the Sun Certified System Administrator qualification.


Prerequisites:

Delegates should have attended the Solaris Admin Part I course or have equivalent experience.


Prerequisite courses:

Solaris 10 Administration Part 1


Relevant Certifications:

Sun Certified System Administrator (SCSA) for the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS)


This course includes the following modules:

Describe network basics – TCP/IP introduction

  • Network files.
  • Network commands.

Configure system messaging and logging using Solaris 10 OS

  • Investigate logs.
  • syslogd daemon and the /etc/syslog.conf file.
  • Logger utility.

Using the Solaris Management Console:

  • Solaris GUI for Administrators.

Introduction to Disk Management on a Solaris 10 system

  • Describe RAID.
  • Understanding logical volumes/metadevices.
  • Configure and troubleshoot using commands and files.
  • Create a RAID-1 volume for the root partition.

Solaris Pseudo Filesystems

  • Manage swap configuration.
  • Manage crash dumps and core files.

NFS

  • NFS principles; server setup, client setup. Features of NFS version 4.

Automounter

  • Automount concepts and setup using autofs maps.

Utilizing Role-Based Access Control

  • Understand the concept.
  • RBAC files.
  • Setup RBAC.
  • Manage RBAC.

Introduction to Zones

  • Understand what a zone is and why zones are used.
  • Configure, install, boot, halt, and reboot zones. Identify zone states.
  • Investigate zone commands

Describe naming services

  • Naming services concept.
  • Investigate various name services.
  • nsswitch configuration file.

NIS concepts and configuration

  • NIS concepts, files, commands.
  • Setup NIS master.
  • Setup NIS slave.
  • Setup NIS client.
  • Build custom NIS maps.

Jumpstart Automated Installation

  • Jumpstart - design, define, implement and troubleshoot.

Flash Installation

  • Understand the concept of Flash.
  • Create a flash archive.
  • Install using a Flash archive.
  • Investigate the concept of WANboot.
