Course Description:
This course is intended for programmers and analysts operating in UNIX or Linux environments using BASH, as well as UNIX or Linux System Administrators and Network Managers.
The "Bourne Again Shell", BASH, has been available for some time from the Free Software Foundation as the command line interpreter for the GNU operating system, and will run on most commercially available versions of Unix. It is now chiefly known for its use as the default shell for the popular Linux operating system. It has become the shell of choice for many companies, and is intended to conform to the POSIX 2 standard. This course deals comprehensively with the capabilities of BASH and the utilities commonly used in the development of scripts.
On completion of the course you will gain the following skills:
- The ability to use the significant features of BASH
- The ability to implement advanced variable and array manipulation
- The ability to develop shell scripts that contain advanced decision making constructs
- The ability to incorporate functions in script design
- An understanding of how to integrate BASH scripts with those written using other shells
- The ability to write reliable, maintainable and efficient shell scripts
Prerequisites:
Delegates should have a working knowledge of Unix or Linux commands and utilities, and familiarity with programming concepts, such as batch processing, loops, decision-making constructs.
