MCSA: on Microsoft Windows 2000

It's attainable. Instructor-led courses and self-paced materials help you prepare for the MCSA exams.

It's respected. Hiring managers indicate that certified professionals deliver a higher level of service to their organizations. In a 2001 survey of 225 technical and non-technical hiring managers representing companies in a variety of industries, 89 percent of respondents said they recommend Microsoft certification for candidates seeking an IT position at their company. MCSAs earn credibility because they can manage a greater number of systems with less server downtime.

It's flexible. All exams count towards the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification, and you can choose elective exams that will earn you an MCSA specialization.

The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) credential proves that you have the skills to successfully implement, manage, and troubleshoot the ongoing needs of Microsoft Windows 2000-based operating environments.

How to Earn Your MCSA on Microsoft Windows 2000 certification

An MCSA candidate should have 12 months of experience working with a desktop operating system, a network operating system, and an existing network infrastructure.

MCSA candidates are required to pass three core exams and one elective exam. Additional exams may be required for MCSA specializations.

Core exams (three exams required)

- Two networking system exams (70-215 & 70-218)

- One client operating system exam (70-210, 70-270, or 70-620)

Elective exams (one exam required)

Together with the core exams, the elective exams provide a valid and reliable measure of technical proficiency and expertise to successfully manage and maintain the typically complex computing environment of medium-to-large-sized companies. (One exam from: 70-089, 70-214, 70-216, 70-224, 70-227, 70-228, 70-235, 70-236, 70-244, 70-262, 70-284, 70-299, 70-350, 70-431, 70-445, 70-500, 70-501, 70-620, 70-624, 70-630, or 70-631)

As an alternative to the electives, these certifications or certification combinations may substitute for an MCSA elective:

- CompTIA Security+

- CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Server+

- MCDST

Note Microsoft has developed independent certification requirements for Windows Server 2003.
